KINGSTON, Jamaica — The 2019 edition of the Racers Grand Prix takes place on Saturday, June 8 at Jamaica’s National Stadium.

The meet which is in its fourth year was scheduled to be held at a later date, however, following discussions with organisers, a decision was made to have the meet on its usual date.

“It had been contemplated that this international athletics meeting would have been held later in the month of June as a result of the late staging of the World Championships in Athletics and the announcement that the Jamaican trials (National Championships) would consequently take place at the end of July.

“Further, the Racers Grand Prix has now emerged as the final warm-up meet for some of Jamaica’s leading athletes before their national trials and so was expected to shift its date in sync with that of the National Championships,” organisers stated.

“However, the JAAA (Jamaica’s administrative body for track and field) has decided to move the national trials back to its accustomed position at the end of June.

“As a result, the organisers of the Racers Grand Prix themselves decided to move back their meet to early June in order to maintain its proximity to the national trials.”

Racers’ president, Glen Mills is expected to disclose the names of some of the headline stars for this year’s meet at a press conference on May 9.
